It is vital to control the weight of your pet. Being overweight, places a big strain on a dogs heart and legs and can significantly reduce active life expectancy. Your eyes are the best guide, too thin and their ribs will become prominent. Too fat and you will feel a thick layer of fat covering the ribs and notice difficulties in getting up from a prone position and also breathlessness when they exercise.
The general guide to your dogs correct weights is shown on page 4, but remember that for many breeds, bitches weigh up to 10% less than their male equivalents.

Serve warm food to a sick dog as this will enhance flavour & smell
Never feed your dog human chocolate. It contains theobromine which is harmful to dogs – just 4oz of cooking chocolate can kill a small breed of dog
Do not feed treats in-between meals and always feed at the same time of day
