Includes heart, blood, circulation & lymphatic systems

Heart disease is second only to cancer, as the cause of death in dogs, and therefore it follows that ensuring a healthy heart is vitally important.

Blood carries oxygen and nutriments to tissues and transports waste products for disposal. The blood is pumped around your dog by means of a 4-chambered heart, to all parts of the body via arteries, capillaries and veins. Like all mammals the blood passes through the heart twice during one complete circuit of the body (known as systemic and pulmonary circulation)

Blood also carries clotting agents, regulates body temperature, controls the body’s ph balance, and carries those all important white blood cells, antibodies and antitoxins that play such an important part in fighting off infection.

Overweight, under-exercised dogs are at greatest risk, as are those on poor diets, which can lead to narrowed arteries and raised levels of cholesterol. Just as in humans, heart problems in dogs grow more common as they advance in age.
